Analysis of the results of the EPA's first quarter 2017 report

The labour market figures from the Active Population Survey (EPA), published today by the National Statistics Service, reveal a reduction in the number of employed people during the first quarter of the year and an increase in unemployment, as is regularly the case in the Spanish labour market.



However, in seasonally adjusted terms the reading is more positive, since the number of employed people has increased and the number of unemployed people has decreased.

Furthermore, in annual terms, this positive trend mexico phone lookup dynamism in the labour market are being consolidated, with the number of employed people increasing by 2.3% year-on-year and unemployment falling by 11.2% year-on-year.

The outlook for 2017 as a whole is positive. According to the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, the number of employed people will increase by 2.4%, which will allow the unemployment rate to be reduced to around 17.6% by the end of the year.

However, the labour market must remain a priority in the government's economic policy and will require the consensus of the other political forces.
