Dakar, June 22 (APS) - Some 1.5 million patients will have an electronic medical record between 2023 and 2027 as part of the Health System Digitalization Program (PDSS) through the Integrated Digital Health System (SDIS), said Adama Carvalho, senior health technician at the Health and Social Card, Digital Health and Health Observatory Unit.
Senegal has obtained funding of "30 billion [FCFA] from the World Bank for the digitalization of its health system for the period 2023-2027," she emphasized, while presenting the health system digitalization program.
This presentation is part of a two-day malaysia mobile database organized in Thiès (west) by the health authorities for journalists specializing in health.
She noted that the project's ultimate goal is to have "1.5 million patients with electronic medical records." Fifty percent of them must be "eligible women" with an electronic maternal health record, and twenty-five percent "people with disabilities with access to electronic equal opportunity cards," Adama Carvalho said.
She added that "20 health centers will use basic electronic medical records" and "20 public health structures [will be] connected to the internet between 2023 and 2027 (...)".
"The integrated digital health system will include the shared patient record (DPP), which includes a unique identification of the patient and the healthcare professional, containing digital platforms for consultations, hospitalizations and examinations."
At the Ministry of Health and Social Action, the Health System Digitalization Program constitutes the third major reform of the sector after those relating to pharmaceutical sovereignty and hospital governance.
The digitalization of health is included in the action plan of the Senegal Digital Strategy, in its updated version.
